Tl'oondih Healing Camp

Tl’oondih (Gwich’in for grassy hill) was built by the Gwich’in in 1994-95 and consists of a 2,000 square foot lodge to hold meetings. The kitchen facility consists of a dining room with both a generator and a solar power system.
The facility has a total of 11 cabins, each with four beds. Nine of the cabins are designed to accommodate up to 36 guests, with two other cabins allocated for staff.

Tl’oondih is located 20 miles south of Fort McPherson on the east bank of the Peel River in the foothills of the Richardson Mountains.

The Tetlit Gwich’in Council of Fort McPherson, NWT, received ownership of the Tl’oondih Camp on December 19, 2002 from the Gwich’in Tribal Council.

Tl’oondih was designed to be a remote healing camp suitable for such activities as
· - family counseling and dealing with trauma;
· - residential school abuse and other programs;
· - outdoor classroom for school students;
· - day or weekend use of the facility as a retreat;
· - conferences and / or meetings.

The Tetlit Gwich’in are so named because “Tetlit” means “place of the head waters” in the Gwich’in dialect.
The Tetlit Gwich’in originate from Fort McPherson, located on the mighty Peel River and situated on the famous Dempster Highway.
