Tetlit Gwich'in Designated Gwich'in Organization Report
Our fiscal year started with the celebration of the Gwich'in Day: this year all the Tetlit Gwich'in gathered at the Johnny D. Charlie Community Hall for an Open House, there were all kinds of events for all ages. The children and youth gathered to go fishing at the fish pond; the elders and adults enjoyed a good cup of tea boiled to an outdoor fire. The staff served the community with a cook out of traditional foods with the modern day menus. The cooks, Johnny Kaye and John Edward Snowshoe did another job well done. The staff coordinated games and events for all ages. The evening events was sponsored and coordinated bt the Tetlit Gwich'in Youth Council with a Youth Talent Show, the winners for this show were: 1st Clara Snowshoe-Blake, 2nd Johanna Edwards, 3rd Jazelle Firth. The Tetlit Gwich'in Youth Council sponsored some of the events for the Kiddies Carnival. There were alot of happy children and youth that day, as they got to participate and compete in some events for the first time.
For the month of May, the Youth took on full leadership with hosting youth events within the community as there was no recreation coordinator. Each event was well attended; sometimes there were more youth than expected. The Mother's Day Cake Decorating was well attended by all youth.
June is always an exciting month in our community as we get to renew with the harvesters, which spent the spring out at their traditional camps. Our thirteen graduates recieved their blessings from the community as they completed their 12 years of educational learning at Chief Julius School. National Aboriginal Day this year was celebrated at the Charles Koe Building with an open house for all the participants. Senoir Citizens Week is a weeklong event which is coordinated through our organization; there were open houses for the elders to attend. Father's Day is a day of appreation to all our Fathers as they celebrate Father's Day with the annual cook out. The community pulled together to show our appreciation to our teachers with a cook out. The month ended with the Annual Commnity Assembly for the Tetlit Gwich'in Council. This year alot of great direction came from our members of the new Chief and Council.
