Our mandate is mainly to support material development for the Gwich'in Language Instructors in the schools and give an overall representation of the Gwich'in culture and language within the education system. Presently, we are assisting with the piloting of the Gwich'in-Inuvialuit Language Curriculum being taught in each of the four schools in Aklavik, Inuvik, Tsiigehtchic and Fort McPherson. We work closely with the Cultural Support Workers within the Beaufort-Delta Education Council office in Inuvik and encourage our Gwich'in Language Instructors in piloting the language curriculum and other related teachings either on the land or in the classroom. Periodically, we hold workshops with the language teachers to assist in modern teaching methods and development of reading and writing materials for all students.
